When Clothing Becomes Part of Daily Life

It was a cold day, not long after we opened SMOKE in Kyoto.

A customer stepped inside by chance while walking home.

They discovered a kitt Signature Pullover, tried it on, and left with the black one.

That evening, a message appeared on Instagram.

"Thank you for this encounter."

The softness of the fabric had stayed with them long enough to write those words.

We remembered that.

Yesterday, they returned.

The black pullover had carried them through winter.

Worn often. Washed often. Loved often.

But spring had arrived, and a sweatshirt was no longer the right tool for the season.

They weren't looking for another sweatshirt.

They were looking for the same feeling.

Something light. Something comfortable. Something they would reach for every day.

After trying several pieces, they chose a Chêne raglan T-shirt.

Made from specially developed organic long-staple cotton, knitted in Wakayama and sewn in Japan, it offers a different expression of softness — one that takes time, skill, and careful material development to achieve.

They touched the fabric and smiled.

"This is soft too."

And they took it home.

The first purchase can happen because of curiosity.

Not because of advertising.

Not because of a discount.

But because the object continued to deliver value long after it left the shop.

When the season changed, this customer's first thought was:

"I wonder if SMOKE has something for this season too."

That is the kind of relationship we hope to build.

Between people and the things they live with.

And quietly, over time, between a neighbourhood shop and the people who choose to return.
